Bet the Stanley Cup Final at BetOnline.com

The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs are winding down but there’s still time for NHL hockey betting fans to make some money at BetOnline.com.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to claw their way back into the Stanley Cup Final after losing the first two games to the Detroit Red Wings in Motown.

Pittsburgh is a +500 underdog to win the series, while Detroit is a -700 favorite.

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins were shutout in the first two tilts, stymied by the Red Wings’ smothering defensive play, particularly the goaltending of Chris Osgood. Osgood stopped 22 shots to earn his second shutout of the final as the Red Wings defeated the Penguins 3-0 to take a 2-0 series lead in Game 2.

Valtteri Filppula and Brad Stuart had a goal and an assist apiece for the Red Wings, who also got a goal from Tomas Holmstrom. Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for Pittsburgh, while Crosby couldn't find the back of net despite six shots on goal for the Penguins.

Not scoring goals is an unfamiliar feeling for the NHL Eastern Conference champions, who are loaded with offensive talent.

At 120 minutes, Pittsburgh's goalless streak ranks third all-time for a Cup final, trailing only the 1945 Red Wings (188:35) and 2003 Anaheim Ducks (143:39).

Detroit, which won the President’s Trophy as the No. 1 team in the NHL for the 2007-08 regular season, also allowed the fewest goals (184) and was first in shots against per game (23.5). In the playoffs, the Wings boast a 1.72 goals-against average.

The Montreal Canadiens are the only team to come back from a 2-0 series deficit to win the Stanley Cup. Montreal managed that feat in 1971 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The series moves back to Pittsburgh, where the Pens are 8-0 this playoff season, for Games 3 and 4.
